Accessorising to Create ‘The Look’

The finest outfit that money can buy will look odd if you don’t get the accessories right, and for most women, that means getting the right handbag both for the occasion and for the outfit. It is important to consider the occasion and the type of clothes you will be wearing.

For example, formal occasions usually call for an elegant evening dress or party dress, accompanied by a small clutch bag with or without a shoulder strap, or a leather purse.  These bags do not have room to carry very much, probably no more than a lipstick, credit cards and your keys, so don’t expect to be able to take all your usual day to day clutter with you.  The next consideration is colour – if you can get a bag that matches the colour of your dress, it will always look effective.  However, not everybody wants to have a wardrobe full of leather purses or clutch bags that they can only use with one dress, so it is usually safe to fall back on black or white.

For everyday wear, a leather tote, a shoulder bag or a hobo bag would be an obvious choice.  Plenty of room to carry everything you could possibly need for the day, and even going into the evening if you plan to go out straight from work.  The main thing is to colour co-ordinate the bag to your outfit, and try not to use the same handbag every day – ring the changes a little, otherwise your look will become tired and samey.

Making Your Wedding Dress Unique

Every bride wants to look and feel fabulous on her wedding day, and the wedding dress has a big part to play in making this happen.  The dress must fit beautifully, flatter her figure and be totally unique.  However, not everyone can afford to pay for a designer to make that unique wedding dress to measure, so what are the alternatives?

The simplest solution is to buy a ready-to-wear wedding dress, and then customise it to suit your own taste.

When buying the wedding dress, go for a simple, plain style that fits well because a good fit is more important than features at this point.  The dress should flatter your figure, so your basic body shape will go some way towards dictating the dress style.  If you are lucky enough to be tall and slender, more or less any style will be flattering to wear.  If you do not have a perfect figure (and few of us can claim to have achieved perfection), then choose a style that maximises your good points and minimises the bad ones.

Having bought the wedding dress, you can now start to customise it.  If you are skilled at sewing, you can do this yourself, but most people will probably need to work with a professional seamstress to ensure they achieve the best results.  It is worth spending money on getting a professional finish – after all, you will have saved some money on the cost of buying your wedding dress, as ready-made dresses are certainly cheaper than made-to-measure!

Any of these wedding dresses would make a great starting point for customisation.

One of the simplest ways to customise your wedding dress is to add lace either as a sash around the waist, a wrap around the shoulders or lace appliques added to the skirt and train.  A deep lace trim added to the hem of the wedding dress can be particularly effective.

Are you planning to wear crystal jewellery?  If so, crystal beads added to the straps of a spaghetti strap dress or scattered across the bodice and train will add sparkle and catch the light as you move.  Ready-made crystal beaded trims are available, and these will add drama to the wedding dress if fitted to the waist or neckline.  Crystal buttons could also be added down the front or back of the bodice or on the sleeve cuffs – the buttons don’t need to be functional, so this is an easy adjustment to make.  Why stick to white?  You might like to consider adding subtly coloured beads or crystals to give a really dramatic and unique effect.

Another idea is to overlay the skirt with a light fabric such as tulle – this will probably need to be done by a professional seamstress to ensure it looks good, but can transform a simple wedding dress into something much more romantic and impressive.  This is also another opportunity to add some colour to your wedding dress – use subtly toned materials in soft feminine colours such as pinks – there is no limit to what you can achieve at moderate cost with a little imagination.

This is your big day, so go ahead and enjoy yourself – the results will be worth it.

Pink World

Have you watched the American movie Legally Blonde? In the movie, the blonde queen as a sorority girl who struggles to win back her ex-boyfriend by earning a law degree. She is stunning and people couldn’t take their eyes off her. What impressed me most is the actress always wears pink clothes throughout the story. In her world, everything is pink, even the doggie sweater is pink too. Leaving aside the other, the style of the blonde is charming and loveable, and her pink wardrobe makes her the focus everywhere she goes.

It seems to many people that there are only two different colours in their world: white and black. There is no doubt that the two colours are classical and will never go out of date. However, the invariable style is too monotonous and dull which cannot offer the others fresh feelings.

I am once again inspired by her cute style. We may as well change our styles properly and there might be a delightful surprise. Well, let’s have a bold try like wearing the pink party dress that never has had before. That will give you some kind of special feeling you have never experienced before. A wonderful idea flashed into my mind while I am viewing the Amira world. Maybe I will be a pink princess on this Valentine’s Day. Great surprise awaits you on the coming Feast of Lovers.

Valentine’s Day – Why Do We Celebrate It?

three heartsValentine’s Day is an annual event held on February 14th and is a celebration of love and affection between two people.  The day is named after one of a series of early Christian martyrs called Valentine (it is uncertain exactly which one), and the day was established in roughly 500 AD, so it is certainly not a modern phenomenon.

It is traditionally a day on which people express their love for each other by giving flowers, confectionery and other gifts, and by sending greeting cards (known as ‘valentines’).  Valentine’s Day cards used to be handmade and some early examples were very elaborate and have now become collectable, commanding high prices.  Sadly, modern cards are usually mass-produced.
Another popular gift from a man to a woman is a set of sexy underwear – here are some examples from Amira.

Valentine’s Day cards can be sent anonymously, and one of the greatest pleasures of receiving one of these cards is trying to guess who sent it – the person who has difficulty deciding which of their many admirers was responsible for the card is fortunate indeed!  This tradition is rather spoiled by some of the cards that one can buy today, which say things like ‘to my Valentine from your Husband’ (or wife), and I think the strangest Valentine’s Day card I have ever seen stated that it was ‘from the dog’.  I suppose it takes all sorts to make a world.

Birth Stones February

The Birthstone for February is the Lovely Amethyst

the Lovely Amethyst.jpg

Every month of the year has a birthstone associated with it, and traditionally, February is represented by the amethyst, which is made from crystalline quartz.  This glorious stone comes in various depths of colour from pale rose pink to deep regal purple, and is reputed to prevent drunkenness and to instil a sober mind.  The word ‘amethyst’ actually comes from the Greek meaning ‘without drunkenness’ and amethyst is believed to protect the wearer from poison.

Not all lists of birthstones are the same, and some cultures have traditionally chosen different birthstones for the same month.  Recently, the organisation called ‘Jewelers of America’ have standardised the list of birthstones, but thankfully, amethyst has remained the birthstone for February – I say ‘thankfully’ because I was born in February, and purple is my favourite colour.

Purple is also a royal colour, and amethysts have been used to decorate royal jewellery and artefacts since recorded history began.  In fact, St Edward’s Crown, with which the new Sovereign is crowned by the Archbishop of Canterbury during the Coronation ceremony, is decorated with precious and semi-precious stones, including sapphires, tourmalines and amethysts.  This crown was last used for the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II on 2 June 1953.

The amethyst theme is reflected in this richly coloured purple dress and detachable strap clutch bag, ideal for that next formal event, maybe even a party to celebrate the next Royal Wedding?

Beauty Costs

Some strange things happen to me frequently. When I am going out, I can’t find something pleasing to wear. Looking at the clothes and evening dresses hung in the closet, all I can do is to shake my head and sign with disappointment. I really feel helpless and have to try all the clothes on for the second time to choose one finally.

Findings of a recent poll suggest that women spend almost one year of their lives deciding what to wear, UK-based Daily Telegraph reported. Whether one is beautiful or not, regardless of one’s figure, women always need to face the problem above.

However, when walking down the street, I can always see many stunning ladies in beautiful dresses. What I see is their beautiful side, as a girl, I can realize all the beauty comes at a heavy price. You have to spend much time searching everywhere. Probably you will get nothing after one whole day’s running around. This perfectly shows Women’s patience and strong will

Thus, when seeing an elegant and grace lady passing by before my eyes, I would rather admire her than envy. No pain, no gain. If one makes enough efforts, every lady can be a beauty.

By the way, perhaps Amira will be your good choice.

Different Evening Dresses For Different Special Events

It is difficult not to miss out on an evening dresses if you are rummaging inside any women’s closet. In fact, a lot of women give importance on their evening dresses that they can wear in any formal function that they attend to. Aside from evening dresses, women also own an assortment of accessories, shoes and jewelry that will go best with the dress that they have inside their closet.

Now there might be too many different social events that women will be attending in their entire lifetime and this is the reason why women do not only own one evening dress but probably two or more so that they can fit in to the different themes of the party that they will be attending. Thus here are some different types of evening dresses that can be worn by women on different special events and if you are starting to build your collection of evening dresses, then this guide may help you complete your collection.

Short Cocktail Evening Dresses

For the less-formal occasions such as a night out with friends or clients or a romantic dinner with your hubby, then a knee-high cocktail evening dress is the best choice. This is a perfect dress to wear especially if the event that you will be attending will involve a lot of dancing later. This is also a good dress to wear during a corporate induction party or an after work dinner party organized by some friends.

Tea-Length Evening Dresses

If you are attending a semi-formal event such as a civil or simple church wedding, then you can wear a tea-length dress which usually has a cut below the knee. However, you also need to make sure that the dress somehow stays true to the motif of the event unless you want to draw a lot of attention to yourself.

Full-Length Dresses

If you will be attending a very formal event such as a social ball attended by a lot of dignitaries and important people, then you need to wear a full-length dress. A full-length dress can be costly but you may want to invest on a few colors that usually work on different themes. The best color to invest on this particular type of evening dress is black or white since it naturally blends in its surroundings. This particular type of evening dress is perfect for white-tie events, formal weddings, balls and even social galas.

The thing about choosing which type of evening dresses that you should have the most depends on what type of party you attend most of the time. But if you think that you will be attending more formal parties, then investing in several formal full-length dresses is the perfect option for you while if you think that you will be attending more spontaneous informal parties, then owning more cocktail dresses will be a good investment for your part. Aside from that, it is important that you also invest on several accessories that go well with the style of your evening dresses.
